The Secret to No-Play: Inside SEEKRUN’s DU-Copper Hybrid Guide System
Share
A little side-to-side play is pretty common in dropper posts. In most traditional designs, metal guide pins run inside matching channels in the lower tube. Those parts need some clearance to move smoothly—make the fit too tight and friction goes up; make it too loose and you start to feel slop at the saddle.
And as those contact surfaces wear over time, that play can gradually increase.

A Different Kind of Guide Pin
For the S8, we took a different approach.
Instead of using a conventional all-metal guide pin, the S8 uses a DU-Copper hybrid guide pin.
The longer DU section is designed with a slight interference fit inside the guide rail. Because the DU material can compress slightly while maintaining low friction, it creates a small amount of preload against the rail. That preload helps take up clearance before it can turn into noticeable saddle play.
The copper section acts as a second stage of support. Under normal riding loads, the DU section handles the fit and keeps the post feeling precise. As lateral loads increase and the DU section compresses further, the copper section provides rigid backup support to help limit excessive movement.

Because both sections are built into the same pin and work in the same guide rail, the relationship between the preload and the backup support can be controlled within a single guide interface.
Built for the Long Run
Reducing play is only part of the story. Guide surfaces still wear eventually, especially on a component that moves thousands of times in dirt, dust, mud, and water.
That’s why the S8 lower tube has six guide rails instead of three.
Three rails are used during normal operation, while the other three remain unused. After long-term wear, the guide system can be rotated 60° to engage the second set of rails.
The goal with the S8 wasn’t to add complexity. It was to solve a familiar dropper-post problem in a smarter way.
A tighter DU interface keeps the post feeling precise. Copper adds support when loads increase. And a second set of guide rails helps extend service life when the first set eventually wears.
That’s the idea behind the SEEKRUN No-Play Guide System.
